2009-2010 School Year

Annual Meeting:

The PEI Home and School Federation’s Semi-Annual Meeting will be held Wednesday, October 14, 2009, 6:00 - 8:30 PM at Central Queen’s Elementary School, Hunter River, PEI.
The theme for the meeting is "Grassroots Education", a back to basics direction for home and schools as a provincial network of parents working in partnership with schools and focused on education. The registration brochures have been mailed to presidents.
We are hosting a discussion and question/answer session at the Semi-Annual meeting with Hon. Gerard Greenan, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development and Deputy Minister, Shawna Sullivan-Curley. Resolutions passed at the April 2009 Annual Meeting will be discussed and members are encouraged to raise any other issues of concern to your Association. This is your opportunity to ask questions of the minister of education about PEI’s education system.
Please contact Janette Conklin or Tracey Hagan-O'Connor to register as a Westwood/ Eliot River delegate . You must register by Friday, October 9, 2009. The agenda and resolutions are available. Print copies will be provided at the meeting.
Registration begins at 5:45 p.m. with refreshments provided at that time. A brief business session will begin at 6:10.

Following the business meeting, the School Health Action, Planning and Evaluation System (SHAPES) team will provide participants with an update about this initiative which was implemented in 85% of Island schools in 2008-09. Presenters include: Dr. Donna Murnaghan, Tasha Herrell, Dr. Brandi Bell, and Sterling Carruthers.

Internet Safety Session:

Be sure to book November 10th, 2009 for our General Meeting / Movie night. We have Constable Niki Richards presenting " Keeping Your Child Safe on the Internet" While she is presenting in the Library at Eliot River School there will be a supervised movie night for all school age children from Westwood and Eliot River schools in the gymnasium.
